Design Ideas for a short film

Top: This is a design of me in my High School Uniform approx Age 11.  The film is going to centre around me and my best friend and our developing relationship.

Bottom: The second design is an adapted version of the first, for the late section of High School - the "goth" phase.  The design will change a few times throughout the short along with how fashion and style changed throughout these years.

"Misaki" short flash animation

This is a short flash animation I created using Gemma Crombleholme's oriental girl design as a base.  I had a blast transferring her initial illustrative design into an animatable flash rig and even more fun animating it! Thanks to Gemma and Tim Martin for his After Effects Compositing help - you are a real whiz!  Enjoy folks!

Helping with Character Design on Pitch for "Space Missionaries"

In association with Solis Animation, a few of us got together and chipped away at an idea for a new show called "Space Missionaries" created by Mathias Horhager.  Both myself and Tim helped design, pose and animate on the pilot.  Here is an example of one of the characters I designed :).

Ontario Place Commercial - Fish dance animation

This is a short clip of the dancing "salmon sisters" I animated for one of the Ontario Place commercials at Cuppa Coffee Studios.  Bare in mind the character hadn't been textured yet, and its missing the background - but you get the jist :).  Enjoy!

Ugly Americans Season 2

Me and Timmy are back working on Ugly American's helping out with some posing, animation and revisions for Season 2 of Ugly Americans.  We are working with Solis Animation and are re-united with a bunch of the original Ugly Americans crew from season 1 :).  Such fun!  I missed this show.

Ontario Place Commercials at Cuppa Coffee Studios

Myself and Tim are both currently working on some commercials for Ontario Place back at Cuppa Coffee Studios in Toronto.  The commercial spots are totally traditionally animated but within Flash using a Cintiq.

Making an illustrative design into a flash rig

This little oriental girl project is a collaboration between myself and Illustrator; Gemma Crombleholme.  Gemma designed this cute little girl and we decided it would be fun and inspiring for us both, if i took her design and made it an Animate-able Flash Rig.  Soon I will be creating a sweet and simple animation with the character to really get to know her, before I take it to the next level and design a 3d version using Maya.
You can view more of Gemma's Illustration work at http://whiterabbitillustration.blogspot.com

Finished Easter Book :).

I finished my Easter Story just in time! :). This was a little side project I wanted to do as a gift to my niece and nephews.  Nothing more inspiring than the love for you family I find.  The illustrations were sketched and then inked and coloured in flash.  The whole story was an original idea of my own and written and illustrated by myself.  Thanks to Tim Martin for helping me with the printing and binding of the book! - You're ace. :).
Now to send it across the ocean!

Animal Sketch

Incredibly inspired whilst watching Big Cat Diary, and also observing my own cat LG wandering around the apartment, I pulled out the sketchbook and had a classic draw!

Merlin and Camelot. Inspired by the BBC show

I sketched it roughly on paper, scanned it in, and played around with some rough's in flash.  After deciding on a design style, I completed all the line work in flash and brought it into Photoshop where I painted the image in its entirety.  A lot of fun! :D

In honour of Heroes

Me and Tim finished watching Heroes today in it's entirety.  This left me feeling empty! I started sketching and it began to resemble Claire so I rolled with it!  I scanned it in and painted it from scratch in Photoshop to break my bad habit of cleaning all line art in flash (I find it much smoother and quicker that way).  So here we are.  Claire Bennett from Heroes!

"The Snowman" and me - Thanks for the memories Raymond Briggs

Every year I watch Raymond Briggs' "The Snowman".  Its the beautiful tale of a boy who builds a snowman, it comes to life and they have a magical adventure together.  I was staring at the dvd case wondering what to sketch, before I knew it I had a doodle of myself with him. I scanned it and went nuts colouring. I tried to capture the feel of the picture but give it a Nic twist with more sharp/bold edges.

An "Ugly" Self Portrait.

After working on the FANTASTIC Comedy Central show 'Ugly Americans; for all of season one, we drew ourselves in the style of the show - It was such a blast!  Here is Victorian Blonde Nic and Crazy Demon Nic. Enjoy :)

Old Goofy Sketch Sesh's

Thanks to Timothy Martin, Family Guy, Avatar: The Last Airbender, The Lion King and The Aristocats for all giving me the creative spark. Cheers :)

A few Graphic Ones - 2010

Inspired by the band Porcupine Tree, the Tv Series LOST, the popular (rightly so) cartoon series Avatar: The Last Airbender and my awesome friend Phill from England - Thanks to all for being so inspiring

Commissioned Artwork 2009

Artwork commissioned by Kye Jones and Rob Adams for a DJ promotion project.  Sketched, scanned and then painted in Flash/Photoshop.

A few oldies

Most of this artwork is from the college years.  I wanted to throw it up as I find looking at old pieces gives birth to new ideas :)

Welcome!

Welcome one and all to my brand spanking new blogspot!  I'm very excited to exhibit my latest artwork and animation here for all to see.  Updates coming ASAP!  Thanks for reading! - nic
